Schumachers' Pit Stop Incidents DTM and Formula 1

Ralf Schumacher recently injured four crew members without any intention during the last DTM race. I am sure most of you watched the footage on internet or TV.  Lucky, no one is serious injured.

When I watched the footage, I remember a similar incident from Michael Schumacher during his career in Ferrari Formula 1 team. Nearly 12 years ago, Michael Schumacher caused an incident in pit similar to his brother. I remember the incident but cannot remember the cause of the incident. Most probably, Schumacher was told to go before the pit was finished.

As you can see, the pit crew has a very hard and dangerous life!

New Fiat Panda 4x4

The new Fiat Panda 4x4 pictures are revealed recently and I can say one thing about it, Panda 4x4 looks way better than the normal Panda. The normal Panda does not offer a distinctive style, however Panda 4x4 is totally the opposite. Therefore, I wanted to mention about it.

New Panda 4x4 is offered with permanent four-wheel drive and electronic differential locks. The engines are 0.9-lt petrol with 85 PS and 1.3-lt diesel with 74 PS. Panda 4x4 offers six-speed manual gearbox with the first gear designed to act as a low-range for off-road terrain. I think new Panda 4x4 is not a bad option for going around off-road with these specs!

The Importance Of Automotive Brakes On A Vehicle

However, even those who are not interested in the mechanical details will at least have heard of ABS to give it a full title, even if we do not understand how it works. Quite simply it is an adaptation of a safety system that was originally designed by a German designer for use in aircraft. The aim was to allow the pilot to retain control over the planes movements when he applied the brakes. In cars and other types of road vehicles, an anti-lock brake system is used to prevent the wheels from locking when you apply pressure to the brake pedal. Without this type of braking system, the wheels could lock, and you would be unable to steer and control the vehicle. At worst, the car could go into a spin which could have disastrous consequences for you, your passengers and perhaps for other road users or pedestrians.Other advantages you gain from having the anti lock brake system fitted to your car is that it can decrease your stopping distance when road conditions are too dry or have become slippery. On the other hand, if the road surface is covered in snow or is gravel topped applying the brakes will require a much longer stopping distance. So even with this safety system fitted, you need to be aware of the road conditions and surfaces and adjust your braking time accordingly.

The standard anti-lock braking system is now available in many modern vehicles and has undergone some changes since it was introduced as an automotive braking system. Depending on the version installed in your vehicle you may find that in addition to preventing wheel locking, the latest model can electronically control the front-to-rear break bias, to help the driver maintain control of the vehicle. There are several types of automotive braking systems, including the vacuum assisted brake system also found in modern vehicles. When the engine is running it creates a vacuum which combines with the pressure you apply to the brake pedal and increase the car's ability to stop quickly, reducing the stopping distance. However, if the engine is revving, the vacuum weakens and reduces braking power, increasing the stopping distance and slowing down the cars progress towards a stop.Automobiles have friction brakes that use friction to create kinetic energy. The vehicle begins to slow down and eventually stop, and the heat energy is released into the air. The brake pedal creates the friction by working with the road wheel hubs, or in some models with the axles or the transmission.Drum brakes are connected to the rotating road wheel hub and when the brake shoes connect with the inner drum surface, it creates friction that gradually slows down the vehicle. It is this friction that causes the brake shoes to need replacing. As any good driver will tell you the more frequently you use the breaks and the harsher you are in applying them, the more often the break shoes will wear out.A disc or rotor break is connected to wheel or the axle of the vehicle to help slow it down and eventually stop. This disc connects with the brake pads causing friction and slowing down the vehicle. You may be surprised to find that slowing down or stopping your vehicle is quite as complex, but if you take time to consider the size and power of any car moving at a speed, slamming the brakes on perhaps to avoid an accident requires a great deal of instant energy to slow it down. You may well have read in the papers or seen on the news, what can happen when breaks malfunction. It may be that the driver has misjudged the situation and not applied their brakes swiftly enough, or it could be a mechanical fault, but the results can be fatal. That is one of the best reasons why we all need to ensure our automotive braking system is fully functional and is services regularly.

İşler Güçler Porsche Boxster

I usually don't write in Turkish but today, there is an exception. Recently, a comedy TV series called "İşler Güçler" started on Star TV in Turkey and became a phenomenon. However, they have a small mistake during their introduction.

The car they drove is a Porsche Boxster. They try to run the car but instead of engine decides to run, it generates white smoke. This probably mean, things did not went well under the bonnet. However, engine bonnet of Porsche Boxster at the rear and the smoke is coming from the front.

I know, if the smoke comes out from the rear, no one can see on TV, but I couldn't miss this funny mistake :)

BMW's rear view camera is a very useful gadget but you need to be careful, while you are not sitting in driver's seat. And don't try by yourself, consequences can be worse.

Mercedes Crash Investigation Department

Mercedes crash profilers, you may not have heard about this before. Actually me too! Crash profiler is a team working in Mercedes to investigate the real crashes, and improve the existing and future vehicles. Mercedes revealed a short footage about this team, and how they work. I hope Mercedes will expand this department to other countries as well.

Mercedes SL63 AMG vs SL65 AMG Video

Mercedes SL63 AMG vs SL65 AMG, these are the two most powerful SL models offered by Mercedes. SL63 is a V8 engine with 537 PS of power and 800 Nm of torque and needs only 4.3 seconds to reach 100 kph (62 mph) with 9.9 lt/km fuel consumption and 231 g/km CO2 emissions. On the other hand, SL65 AMG is a V12 engine with 630 PS of power and 1000 Nm of torque and needs only 4.0 seconds to 100 kph (62 mph) with 11.6 lt/km consumption and 270 g/km CO2 emissions.

However, SL65 AMG is a not very good choice, because the V12 engine is very powerful and the amount of power cannot be used efficiently. 630 PS of power and rear-wheel drive is not very good option! Also, the V12 engine is heavier than V8 and leads to manipulate weight distribution of the SL and may cause understeer. Lastly,V12 engine produces 1000 Nm of torque and this causes to increase the weight to transmission to cope with the excess amount of power.

Basically; SL63 AMG is cheaper, more economic and better packed :)

New Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 4S

Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 4S are revealed today. Porsche 911 is the perfection in automotive engineering, for decade Porsche constantly improved the 911 and shift the bar higher. Even though, manufacturing of Porsche 911 is too much robotic and lack of emotional touch of a Lamborghini, Porsche 911 is still one of the best cars in the world!

With new all-wheel drive option in 911, everything got better. I really don’t like the rear wheel driven Porsche 911s. I don’t know why but, I would not buy a rear-wheel driven 911. I think it is a bit psychological, when there is an all-wheel drive option, it makes you feel more confident on the road and you don’t want to ignore this option. And you have the full power of the engine on the road.

With Porsche Carrera 4 and 4S models, Porsche started to introduce more technology. Radar guided cruise control (ACC), front-end collision preventer Porsche Active Safe, sliding glass sunroof (So Targa model may not be available in future) and extended sport Chrono Pack with double declutching function.
Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 4S are available with 7-speed manual or 7-speed PDK (double clutch automatic gearbox). I highly recommend you to buy PDK gearbox, manual is the old technology! Depressing clutch is old school, sorry!

Technical details;

All new models have a 7-speed manual gearbox as standard, and the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) gearbox is available as an option. The 911 Carrera 4 Coupé with 350 hp (257 kW) can sprint from zero to 100 km/h in as little as 4.5 seconds (Cabriolet: 4.7 s) and reach a top speed of up to 285 km/h (Cabriolet: 282 km/h), depending on equipment features. Fuel consumption with PDK is 8.6 l/100 km (CO2 203 g/km) for the Coupé and 8.7 l/100 km (CO2 205 g/km) for the Cabriolet.

The Coupé and Cabriolet of the 911 Carrera 4 S each have a 3.8-litre rear-mounted boxer engine that produces 400 hp (294 kW); this enables acceleration to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds (Cabriolet: 4.3 seconds) and a top speed of 299 km/h (Cabriolet: 296 km/h) with a suitable equipment configuration. Fuel consumption values with PDK are 9.1 l/100 km (CO2 215 g/km) for the Coupé and 9.2 l/100 km (CO2 217 g/km) for the Cabriolet.

Servicing the Automotive Industry

Every great team is nothing but the sum of individual players. Likewise, every great machine is nothing but the sum of individual, well-made parts. The trucks that barrel down our highways bringing us our goods are meticulously built and maintained. Similarly, the entire trucking and transportation industry also requires meticulous maintenance, making sure the relationships between manufacturers, clients and transportation specialists all work together as smoothly as possible. So who is responsible for being the gel holding all these parts together? The Automotive Service And Parts Advisor. An automotive service advisor is like a combination of a auto-parts consultant and customer relations specialist, two relatively different areas of expertise. This person must know how to deal with mechanics and truckers on one hand regarding technical and operational issues, as well as individual customers and clients on the other hand regarding their personalized needs and any problems they may have. In other words, one must be a people-person, and be comfortable communicating in the secret language of machines. If you are interested in a career in the transportation industry but don't think you are cut out for a life on the road, or under the hood of a truck, then consider if these tasks sound right for you: scheduling and time-management, automotive parts and systems coordination, conflict resolution and communication, invoicing, inventory control, and warranties, customer service and client care, and dealer operations. This may sound like a job for more than one person, but this only proves how diverse this kind of career can be.The transportation industry often works closely with many leading automotive schools to help train and recruit the top students for career automotive specialists. Learning the "nuts and bolts" of the industry starts in a great program that mimics the actual day-to-day experience of the career. An automotive service advisor needs to spend as much time behind the computers as in front of the clients during this training period. Experience is learned while practicing with realistic and simulated training programs, for example: parts pricing and cataloging software, labor estimation tools, and international parts locator systems like the widely used IPC system. The best training courses, however, won't limit the student to sitting at computers learning software, but will have active role playing activities. Don't be surprised if your school has an actual parts-and-service counter just like the real world, where typical workplace customer service situations are acted out. Because of the practical nature of this education, students do while they learn, and learn while they do. This is the advantage to a diploma with auto training schools. If you're interested in the transportation industry but can't decide between specializing in hands-on technical duties or working with people, than an automotive service and parts advisor is the perfect position to shift your career into high gear.
